Georgetown University Hides Jesus’ Name for Obama

by th0ughts on April 17, 2009

It’s all over the web. Many speculates and raised their brows, some even questioned and accused. While there are so many pre-assumed conviction about atheism. The one in contention is the White House’s decision in favor of President Barack Obama’s speech held in Georgetown University’s Gaston Hall to cover all signage including the monogram “IHS“ which symbolizes the name of Jesus Christ (in reference to CNSNews.com).

Because the monogram was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday. The White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols that can be found where the event will take place.

Here’s a photo of the venue where Obama spoke where the IHS is inscribed.

Here’s a video clip of the event that happened.

If Obama instructed the White House to cover these religious symbols, on my opinion, it is just showing how Obama values transparency. I think White House did it so that people who weren’t Christians would not think the other way that Obama is on the side of any religious groups. Even if Obama would speak in a Buddhist school, I certainly believe that he would have done the same thing. It also denotes how Obama value the separation of Church and State.

If some people think otherwise, then, it’s a privilege to express one’s opinion. Did you think of it as offensive? Have your say.
